HOW TO WIESN

It is not so long until the 5th season will be inaugurated in Munich. The Oktoberfest in Munich is the largest folk festival in the world. It has been held since 1810 on the Theresienwiese in the Bavarian capital Munich. The City of Munich is the organiser. Some Munich breweries brew a special beer for the Oktoberfest, which must have an original wort of at least 3.5% and contain about 5.8 to 6.4 percent alcohol by volume. The Oktoberfest generates an average of one billion Euro in sales during the two weeks.

The first Oktoberfest

On the occasion of the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese on 2 October 1810, numerous private and public celebrations were held in Munich, including a horse race on 7 October. The Oktoberfest dates back to that time.

The Oktoberfest today

During the last decades, the Oktoberfest has attracted millions of visitors every year. The guests come more and more from abroad, mainly from Italy, the USA, Japan and Australia. In recent years, there has been a trend towards wearing traditional costumes: many Oktoberfest visitors come in Lederhosen or Dirndl dresses.  Here is a little “guide” for all those who are not from Munich.

1.It’s called Wiesn

and not Wiesen (meadows), Wies’n, beer festival or the like. Oktoberfest would be fine in emergency cases, but generally we say Wiesn.

2.Do not even try to drive there by car.

There is no parking, and at no time are the police checks more frequent than during these two weeks. Going by taxi is fine, coming back we would take the train as getting a taxi can be a real feat.

3.Costumes should be worn!

With jeans and T-shirt, you immediately exclude yourself as a tourist. Costumes are worn all day during the Oktoberfest, which means also in clubs. You actually draw attention to yourself if you dress “normally”. Incidentally, there is also a lot to consider with the costumes:

How to wear: Dirndl dresses. Firstly: There are no possibilities of ordering a dirndl dress at a carnival shop. Australians may not have another option, but you certainly do. A dirndl dress should be at least knee length, the apron in no case longer than the dirndl skirt.  The apron knotted on the left means you are single, tied on the right means married and in the centre – you would rather leave it –  A blouse under the dirndl is compulsory. In terms of colour, there are no restrictions, a good fit is of course desirable.

How to wear: Lederhosn. Lederhosen trousers should also be made of leather. Made of cotton or jeans they just look fit for a carnival. Lederhosen are combined with a white and blue chequered shirt and the best would be with haferl shoes and stockings. For tips on where to buy the best costume, our team is at your disposal.

4.It’s called Mass

And we do not mean “Maaas”, as you can actually see from the spelling. The “a” is pronounced briefly and the “s” is sharp. And while we’re at it: You should say Brezn and not Bretzel or pretzels.

5.Where can I book a cheap hotel room?

There are not any. During the Oktoberfest, all hotels are certainly twice as expensive as usual, and now probably as good as fully booked. However, from next year, there is a perfect alternative, namely our TIMEHOUSE. You can already book your room with us for the 5th season 2019.

Your TIMEHOUSE team wishes you a peaceful Oktoberfest!

TIMEHOUSE – Playing golf for a good cause

Doing good for a whole day. During a whole day, bring a smile to the face of the mourning young children of the Nicolaidis YoungWings Foundation.

The Nicolaidis YoungWings Foundation supports adults, children and adolescents after a loss in the family.

The foundation was started in 1998 by Martina Münch-Nicolaidis after her own personal experience. With their offers of help, they provide many possibilities to deal with individual grief and loss. Their goal is to support each person individually and to find a suitable offer of help.

The Nicolaidis YoungWings Foundation has organised a benefit golf tournament for the last seven years. This year the tournament took place at the Eichenried golf club. TIMEHOUSE participated in this special event for the second time as a sponsor. Under the heading “We help young ones who mourn”, the event was completely dedicated to active participation and the creation of new perspectives. No wonder, then, that many exciting personalities, such as YoungWings ambassador Thomas Müller, actively contributed to organising the day. Not only exciting personalities made this day unforgettable, but also brands who are committed such as Audi, Weber Grill and the luxury label ORNO.

With the proceeds of the golf tournament, the commitment of the Nicolaidis Foundation has been greatly supported. We are proud to be a part of this project that is close to the heart!

PREMIERE!!! We brought the first finished TIMEHOUSE Premium Smart Apartment to the golf course. How did that work? With the help of a QR code and a pair of VR glasses, the YoungWings participants were able to experience a virtual tour through our apartment. And that right in the middle of the lush greenery of the Munich Eichenried golf course!

With the bright blue sky and summery temperatures more than 100 golfers came to tee off for the good cause. And Thomas Müller rounded up even more prominent support on the course: In addition to Philipp Lahm and professional golfer Marcel Siem, singer Tim Bendzko was also there to play for YoungWings.

After an exciting tournament day, nearly 300 guests were welcomed at the evening event. At the end of the day, the ambassador Thomas Müller and the founder Martina Münch-Nicolaidis received a donation check from the children amounting to 230,000 Euro.

We say THANK YOU for this unforgettable day!

THE TIMEHOUSE GUIDE TO THE PERFECT SUIT

Naturally, the suit is not a new invention. In terms of form, it is probably older than the majority of all fashion trends. We can assume that all men own a suit, and that this elegant combination of jacket and trousers is available in just about every clothing store. Despite this, two major problems remain: firstly, any old suit does not make the perfect suit, and secondly, there is simply no awareness of the “gentlemanly” look. As previously mentioned, suits are nothing new. Yet looking around the streets of the world, it is hard not to feel sad. Men hardly wear suits any more, and those who do are mostly obliged to for work. Their suits don’t fit properly at the front or at the back, and are merely “work clothes” rather than an eye-catching fashion statement.

“BEING A TRUE GENTLEMAN NEVER GOES OUT OF STYLE.”

The basic requirements for the perfect suit

The most important prerequisite for a suit is that you should feel comfortable in it, not like you’re “dressing up”. There is nothing cooler than the self-confidence radiating from a man wearing the perfect suit. And conversely, there is nothing more artificial than a man who looks like his mum has dressed him up in a suit for his confirmation. There are actually suits that look great without making you feel like you’re stuck inside a strange skin.

I have to admit, the title may be a bit misleading. It is almost impossible to leave a shop with the perfect suit, whether you’re in H&M or Prada. Off-the-peg suits never fit perfectly everywhere. That would be impossible, after all, as we are all very different!

There are basically two ways to find the perfect suit. Firstly, you can get out your wallet and pay for a tailored suit. It will definitely fit, and you can also choose the material and the shape. The disadvantage: the price! The second option is to buy the best off-the-peg suit you can find and have it adjusted by a tailor. For the second option, it is important to find a professional who can mark out the necessary changes!

So what does the perfect suit look like?

Of course, there is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. Your own taste is a crucial as your height and build. And of course if you want to look fashionable, you have to take trends into account too.

What about the colour?

Here the sky is pretty much the limit, both in terms of colour and pattern. However, if you don’t own a lot of suits, it may be an idea to start your wardrobe with a simple, plain style in navy or dark grey. A suit like this will be suitable for almost every occasion, and is also great for combining with other garments such as jeans. If you already have a plain grey or navy suit, then why not try a patterned grey suit, or a suit in blue, grey or brown tweed or wool. These look beautiful, especially in winter. In summer, beige suits are also an option. What about a black suit? You only really need a black suit for funerals and FBI missions. A black smoking jacket is a better idea.

What shape?

When choosing the shape, you should bear a couple of things in mind: your own physique and current trends, and the occasions to which the suit is to be worn. If you are buying a suit for a job at a bank, you should stick to a fairly classic style. If you’re buying it just to wear, however, then you can pay more attention to trends. In other words: more extreme proportions, narrower, shorter sleeves, and very slim-cut trousers all become options.

In terms of your own physique, there are of course certain tricks for achieving the best results when buying a suit.

What will you wear with it?

Suits are great, but they are brought to life by what you combine them with. If you take a look at the street-style looks of the world’s fashion icons, you will see that the best outfits are brought to life by the details.
As a rule, suits are normally worn with shirts. Plain or brightly patterned, simple or elaborate: your own taste and the occasion are crucial here, as is what works and what doesn’t. The shirt has to look neat and sit well, and it has to be ironed. The sleeves of the shirt should be about a finger’s width longer than the sleeves of your suit. Short-sleeved shirts do not go with suits, period.

As an alternative to a shirt, in summer you can combine your suit with a plain, round-neck T-shirt, while in winter you can wear a turtleneck sweater.

Ties, whether silk, woollen or knitted, are not a “must”. A relaxed dinner with friends, of course, does not require a tie. But the same goes for ties as for suits: most of the time you should simply wear one. People will appreciate it. When buying shirts, make sure that you can close the collar easily – then the tie won’t feel like a noose.

If you are really confident in your own style, you don’t need a black tie event to jazz up your suit with a bow tie. Go for a 1930s Gatsby style, or a modern bird-of-paradise look.
If you want to add the final touch to your look, try a pocket handkerchief. This can be in contrast to the rest of your look, for example to add a splash of colour to an otherwise plain outfit.

Suits are classically combined with elegant lace-up shoes in either Derby or Budapest style. For a more casual look, choose leather loafers than can be worn with or without socks. For an even less formal look, sneakers are a legitimate choice.

“DRESS HOW YOU WANT TO BE ADDRESSED.”

The attitude

The big entrance in your perfect suit? It’s not so hard! Simply trust in yourself. To really complete the look, you need to radiate self-confidence. Walk tall, casually button and unbutton your jacket at the right moment. Act like a gentleman so you don’t just look the part, and you’re ready to conquer the world!
