The three most beautiful parts of Munich for the cold season

Thick snowflakes trickle quietly onto the christmassy decorated roofs of Munich, you cuddle up tighter in your winter coat and enjoy a leisurely stroll through the city. What could be nicer than a winter walk, except perhaps a hot cup of chocolate with it? We will show you in which districts you, the Winter Wonderland, can enjoy Munich the best.

Haidhausen

The district really has a lot to offer. The romantic Wiener Platz with its cosy Christkindlmarket is particularly beautiful. You can then continue your walk to Weißenburger Platz and admire the decorated “Hexenhäuschen”. But not without stopping at the KaffeeKüche. The lovingly designed café tempts you with different kinds of homemade hot chocolate. Perfect for your winter walk.

Nymphenburg

The former summer residence of Empress Sissi, Nymphenburg Castle, invites you to take a stroll in winter. Winter sports enthusiasts in particular have the opportunity to ice skate on the castle canal. In Nymphenburg you can watch the hustle and bustle and then warm up with a cup of hot chocolate in the glamorous Schlosscafé Nymphenburg.

Isar

A walk along the Isar, over the many bridges up to the gardener’s square is always worth a visit. A large selection of hot chocolates is available at the traditional Trachtenvogl café in Reichenbachstraße. The trendy cultural quarter with its many small shops invites you to stroll and the older house facades offer a wonderful view in the snow.

The Olymiapark – A breath-taking view over Munich

The Olympiapark is one of the most famous attractions in Munich and with its 85 hectare the park attracts many tourists and locals every year. In addition to many sporting and cultural events, the park also offers a wonderful view over Munich and, if the weather is fine, even the Alps.

The Olympiapark was designed for the 1972 Olympic Games and also gets its name from this major athletic event. For the Olympic games, a stadium, an indoor hall, an indoor swimming pool, a lake and an Olympic village were planned and built for the athletes. Since 1972 the Olympic Park has served as a venue for sporting, cultural and social events and attracts numerous people every day. You can also take wonderful and long walks along the various paths in the park. The path to the Olympic mountain is especially popular, as from there you have a breath-taking view over Munich and can even see the Alps in good weather.

The Olympiaturm

If the view from the Olympiaberg is not enough for you, you can also climb the Olympiaturm. At 291.28 metres, the television tower is Munich’s tallest building and a special feature of the city panorama. At a height of 190m there is a viewing platform from which visitors have the best view of Munich and the Alps. Next to the viewing platform there is also the Rock Museum in the Olympiaturm, which displays a selection of exhibits on the theme of rock and music. If you want to enjoy culinary delights, you can also enjoy a meal in Restaurant 181. The restaurant is located at 181m above sea level and offers a panoramic view of Munich – the glassed-in restaurant rotates completely within 49 minutes. A special conclusion for a successful day.

Haxn, Mass and Obazdn – a traditional day with Bavarian delicacies in Munich

Bavaria is known for its hearty food and home cooking, which also makes the culinary hearts beat faster far beyond the borders of the state capital. Whether white sausages for breakfast or a rustic snack in the beer garden – Munich offers lots of traditional highlights.

A visit to a rustic Munich pub or one of the many beautiful beer gardens makes a stay in Munich perfect. These five Bavarian specialities lead you through the culinary day in Munich and bring the “gmiatliche Heimatgfui” directly to your plate.

Bavarian Weißwurstfrühstück

The best way to start the day is with delicious Weisswurst in combination with Weisswurst mustard, a pretzel and a wheat beer. Traditionally, the Weißwurst breakfast takes place before 12.00 noon, because: The Weißwurst must not hear the twelve o’clock bell!

Lunch break with roast pork

The pork crusty roast tastes excellent in beer sauce, served with a bread dumpling and cabbage. In loving work the roast pork was cooked in the oven for hours and again and again poured over with beer. Thus it receives its tender, juicy meat and its resche crust.

Allgäuer Käsespätzle-Vegetarian

Those who like it less meaty but still hearty will make the right decision with cheese spaetzle. The Spätzle are most delicious when homemade and tossed in butter. In the restaurant Lindwurmstüberl the Bavarian cosiness is written in capital letters and delicious cheese Spätzle is served.

An afternoon in the beergargen

The last rays of sunshine under the chestnut trees of the Munich beer gardens can be enjoyed particularly well with a hearty snack board and a Mass. Obazda, radish and crackling lard arrange themselves to a hearty delicious combination and strengthen for the upcoming evening.

Apfelkücherl in the evening

In the restaurant Jagdschlössl you can feast in a cosy atmosphere and let the evening fade away. In addition to the traditional baked apple rings with cinnamon and sugar – Apfelkücherl – other Bavarian delicacies are served here.
